Julia Skala (she/her, *1997 in Wiesbaden, Germany)
is an illustrator, designer and director for animation.

Julia's 2d -animated short film SOMMERREGEN (2020) travelled to international filmfestivals including Manchester Animation Festival, Anim'est, CINANIMA and many more. Her new, graduation short film polliwog (2024) premiered at film festivals in october 2024 and has screened at many international filmfestivals and has been nominated for an Annie Award 2025 as Best Student Film, longlisted for a 2025 Student BAFTA and is currently longlisted at
the 2025 World Illustration Awards.

As an illustrator, Julia works with reduced, dynamic shapes and bold colors and strokes. She designs new projects that she is currently developing with her own visual identity as an autheur filmmaker and illustrator.
 

Having graduated in spring 2024 as a director for animated films from the renowned Animationsinstitut of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Julia has also spent a semester studying handdrawn animation at Gobelins, l'école de l'image in Paris, France in 2021.
